The Mini Notebook - 5 Buyers Guide Tips
So you've decided to buy a mini-notebook, and have no idea where to start. No problem! It is not nearly as overwhelming as you think. Like everything is new, there is a slight learning curve. Things always go lighter, but when you have someone show you the right path. Hopefully I can help you learn to respect the little things that make a big difference in how much you make use and enjoy your netbook. Below is a list of 5 things to watchWhen purchasing your first mini-notebook.
Screen Size
There are two common screen sizes that are available for mini-notebooks available, the 9-inch and 10-inches. Here is a brief comparison between the two.
10-inch Pro - Easier to read / Great Keyboard
10-inch-Con - higher price / overall larger in size
9-inch Pro's - smaller overall size / cheaper to buy
9-inch-Con's - Smaller screen size / small keyboard after personallyPurchase of a 9-inch in front of the 10-inch models were available, I can honestly say I wish I had the 10-inch mini notebook model purchased. The disadvantages are not so bad and I can not tell you beginning to see how much nicer it is to type the 10-inch keyboard compared to the 9-inch, it's literally night and day difference.
No CD-ROM
That was one thing that many of my friends did not at first, when my mini-notebook to make it happennot have a CD-ROM drive. I have mixed feeling on them, how much was not a deal breaker with a CD-ROM. Fortunately, there are some simple solutions to this problem.
Portable External CD-ROM drive - you can buy an external CD-ROM drive from different locations, for your on-line mini-notebook to connect to a USB cable. It is usually between $ 15.00-$ 60.00 per run on things like size, style and type of media that they play. For example, a modelthat burns and plays DVD's that little bit more costly than a standard CD drive.
USB Drive / download programs - I do not install any software, which is often, this option I go with. Most CD's I get with programs to install, can be downloaded by each company's website and the version available on the website is almost always up-to-date. For the few times I need some software from a CD, which I just put the CD into any desktop computer and copy it to installon my USB flash drive. Then you can drive to your netbook and install the plug as it appears on the CD. Operating System
Most people, myself included, just assumed that any type of computer only came with some version of Windows. With the introduction of the mini-notebook, many manufacturers install it sold with a version of Linux. One of the biggest advantages of Linux is that it is open source and free. It really helps to cut downPrice of your netbook. If you just carry it around with your mini-notebook as a secondary laptop for fast web browsing then it might be worth in a model that a version of Linux instead of Windows XP or Windows 7 installed to see. If you are not up for learning a new operating system, I would definitely stay with a version of Windows. If you want to compare Linux to Windows to stop by any local electronics stores like Best Buy. You should have a varietyof mini-notebooks are installed on both the stock Linux and Windows operating systems to test.
Hard Drive
The typical hard drive on most computers is a little movable plates together with a small arm that the data in order to write. As technology advanced, manufacturers were able to make devices similar to a USB flash drive, but with much larger space. What this has created a hard drive, which produces much less heat, has less energy, and had no movingParts. The main disadvantage is the increased cost of currently larger sized SSD drives in 128GB plus size. These drives are called solid state drives or SSD. The biggest factor in deciding which drive is right for you depends on how much space you need. The typical size of SSD drive on a mini-notebook is between 4-32GB, and the typical standard-size hard drive on a netbook is 160 GB. The costs in this case, for each drive is very similar in these sizes. It is reallyon how much space you think you need. In my case I went with the 160 GB and now regret it. I did not know that somewhere in the vicinity are using lots of space.
Keyboard / Track Pad
They keyboards and bottom plates to mini-notebooks are a little different then the ones found on your standard laptop size. The producers moved the trackpad button, so unsettled, so that they are not in the standard position among the trackpad to be aware of very strange at first sodass
To use the keyboard on a mini-notebook with a 9-inch or 10-inch match they had to be significantly reduced. On the 9-inch netbook on the keyboard can be very hard to type, depending on hand size. The 10-inch is much better, as about a 92% keyboard size compared to a normal laptop.
In the same way I recommend that you check-out of the operating decisions at the local electronics shop I would also recommend the same for the keyboard. After a few months ago, I used my 9-inch keyboard but when a friend bought a 10-inch model and I was able to be to try and I was just at the difference made a total of 1 inch surprised to type.
Hopefully these 5 tips help you in your journey for the purchase of a mini-notebook to begin. I have the most important things that I now wish someone would have dropped it before I purchased my first Netbook says. Testing also remind you that mini-notebooks are not made to replaceYour everyday computing, but the work as a great travel companion to alleviate the need to implement the wearing of a large laptop every day.
